It took eternity to get back home from work due to the traffic. The intoxicating air and the noise pollution exhausted me. The speed of the city shifted me out of balance which I aimed to regain by going on a vacation.

It has been 6 years since I started practicing yoga. When I have free time, I also give classes. For me,to maximize the benefit of the practice, the ambiance is one of the first element to consider. I believed there must be a perfect place for me to deepen meditation , do yoga, enjoy fresh organic dishes and clean air.

Whatever we are determined to find,we often do. While I was taking a break for lunch, I spent some time one Facebook. A friend of mine posted some pictures from her trip. The photo of her practicing yoga amoung the valleys caught my attention. I found out she has been on a yoga retreat at the Spa Resort Chaingmai. That lead me to browse on the resort

It did not take me long to make the decision to sign up for the yoga retreat and book a flight for my weekend retreat. First of all,the yoga retreat program looked amazing. Not only the yoga practice but it also included the use of all the neat facilities 2 swimming pools, the Bamboo Spa, Thai Herbal Steam, Far Sauna and the best the Radiance Restaurant with amazing Vegetarian, Vegan and Raw food, even Raw food classes.

In less than an hour, I landed in beautiful Chiangmai, leaving Bangkok behind. There was still some time until sunset. I changed into comfortable shoes and started to take a walk to the village near by the resort. There were countless rice paddies in the valley of green mountains. It was abolutely a charming place.

During this short retreat, I also enjoyed spending my afternoons relaxing by the pool as well as getting pampered with Thai massage, taking a steam or Sauna and enjoying the fantastic food. The Yoga Classes are taught by two lovely Thai instructors with years of experience, they were great.

I am absolutely impressed of the result of the retreat. The physical and emotional transformation that happened within is far beyond expectation. It won’t be long until I return there. I’m thinking of taking a Training course.

Retreat Culture: A Growing Trend

April 16th, 2010 No comments

People are starting to make a healthier choice when it comes to booking their vacations and looking at specialized retreats. The realities surrounding us are stressful – the economy, healthcare, global warming. Vacations are supposed to reduce your stress levels and wellness retreats are created to do just that. Anamaya Retreat Center in Montezuma, Costa Rica has a variety of retreats that are designed to increase your overall quality of life. They provide a nice alternative to the all-inclusive resort vacation that doesn’t focus on health or wellness.

It’s debatable that the all-inclusive environment is not conducive with a healthy lifestyle. Daily alcohol consumption paired with over eating is promoted and part of the enticement. An additional downside to the typical all-inclusive is that vacationers don’t really get a sense of the Country’s true Culture. Stress reduction is a large component to why people go away on vacation, but does the environment at an all-inclusive resort actually provide that?

Retreat type vacations are becoming increasingly popular and therefore a “Retreat Culture” is starting to develop. Travelers who want a new vacation experience have found a variety of health, wellness and adventure retreats at Anamaya Retreat Center. There are different retreats to suit all needs. They can be creative, romantic, rejuvenating and more. The individualized packages are extremely well priced which is another great aspect.

Some of the more common retreat vacations are spa and yoga retreats but there are a number of options. Some of retreats available are for body detox, creative writing, dancing, painting, circus performing, and spiritual or emotional healing. The specific theme of the vacation package meets the desires of the traveler which makes these retreats incredibly attractive. For example, at Anamaya guests are nestled in charming cabinas surrounded by the rainforest overlooking breathtaking ocean views.

Another commonality amongst retreats is the focus on healthy, organic food. Although the science behind food health is still relatively new, Anamaya resort prepares the food they serve with a lot of thought and love. An abundance of care goes into creating the recipes they use, they have very close relationships with the organic farms that grow the food they buy, and they cater to any dietary needs. Many retreats include Raw Food workshops into their packages or focus specifically on detoxifying the body through diet.

As the movement towards retreat vacations grows, there is an increasing need for facilities where retreat leaders can host their programs. Anamaya retreat center hosts numerous retreats. “Leading a retreat at Anamaya is such a delight. The Yoga Deck is by far the best place I have ever taught yoga. I will never forget that glorious and expansive view of the ocean. The food is amazing. Oscar is a wonderful chef and the Staff are all such lovely and helpful people. Myself and my students received much more than expected. Look forward to doing it again,” says Daniella Cotreau of Body Temple Yoga. The location of the facility needs to contribute to the vacation retreat – hence the word vacation. Some popular destinations for retreats are Costa Rica, Indonesia and India.

The next time you’re taking a week off of work, check out the web for some incredible deals on retreat packages and treat yourself to a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Find out for yourself why the Retreat Culture is so appealing – you won’t regret it!
