Caribbean holidays hold charm for all sorts of tourists: adults, kids and the disabled. The place is so immensely beautiful and lively that everybody can find something interesting to do here. The Caribbean is not only famous for its water sports and the thrill and adventure associated with it. Over 7000 Caribbean islands are sandwiched between the mighty Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Its white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters, the beautiful landscape and the swaying pine trees welcome the disabled visitors warmly.

If you are looking for a holiday with one of the best water sports facilities, then Caribbean is just the right place to go. Disabled visitors might find it hard to take part in the extremely thrilling yet risky water sports, but they still have the advantage of watching live sports like jet skiing or parasailing, right there before their eyes. If they are not handicapped that much, then they can even enjoy simpler activities like canoeing or banana boating. The helpful guides and instructors while doing it will assist them.

Those who are visually impaired or have hearing problems can still enjoy lighter sports like banana boat and canoeing. They can have a ball of a time in the safer parts of the sea with the help of the guides and the instructors, who are helpful.

Going on a cruise is definitely the most adventurous activity for the disabled visitors. Many cruises are designed to cater to the special needs of the disabled visitors with wheel chairs. The passageways and the frames of the doors are wide enough to let the wheelchairs pass easily. Apart from this, the thresholds are kept flat and ramps built near the staircases facilitate the disabled visitors. The thresh holds are flat and the disabled visitors are provided with in-shower wheel chairs as well. Other facilities include elevators and easy access to the activities on cruise for the disabled. However, the disabled visitors themselves, before planning for any vacation, should take safety measures. Their travel agents should give them complete information about their destination. It is natural for the disabled visitors to experience lesser thrill and excitement as compared with others, but they will still be able to enjoy it largely.

There are lots of other attractions for disabled visitors in the Caribbean like sightseeing enjoy waterfalls, caves, volcanoes and rain forests, or they can go for bird watching or a safari or an amusement park. Those who can manage to go on cycling trips should not miss the opportunity.

Close Calls with Australian Creatures

April 24th, 2009 No comments

Right before I moved to Australia with my husband, who is Australian, I watched a television show about the ten most deadly creatures in the world. I looked right at my husband and joked, that, if all ten were from Australia I was not moving. Little did I know I was not far off. Nine out of the ten creatures were from Australia.

My first, creature sighting, was with an arachnid. It was late in the evening when I spotted a large shadow, the size of my hand, on the wall. When I turned on the light, the spider stood on it’s hind legs and jumped towards me. Both the spider and I ran in different direction. The spider turned out to be a Huntsman spider, which apparently are good to have in your home and harmless. I also found out that a large can of bug spray will not be able to kill these guys.

Needless to say I am no better in the water .The slightest touch of something on my skin while in the sea sends me swimming faster than an Olympian even if it does turn out to be seaweed. I am not a strong swimmer so the currents terrify me , the knowledge of the fact that box- jelly fish AND killer sharks dwell in these waters petrifies me ” so when Husband suggests a romantic sailing holiday in the Whitsundays , North Queensland , I have to admit to not being immediately keen but I agreed .

Whitsundays, was breathtakingly beautiful. Turtles were swimming in the shallow waters and dolphins surrounded us in the deeper waters. After trip I became a little braver about swimming in the ocean.

The water is so amazingly crystal clear here and so blue it is mesmerizing, that is until you see a dark shadow in the depths below you that seems to be coming nearer and nearer. It would be an understatement to say that I almost ran on top of the water shrieking like a banshee. I leapt up the ladder to find my Husband in fits of laughter pointing to what I had been swimming from ” not a shark as I had automatically assumed or a jelly just a Clown Fish . Well it WAS the size of a dinner plate but I guess I was the clown!

World Travel Guide Network and Tips

When traveling many things can and do go wrong so following a few simple rules could prevent many of those problems fellow travelers encounter on the road. Usually these problems could be prevented but may give a false impression of the location you have visited.

Things can even get to the point where you can feel like a prisoner as you become reluctant to leave your room. When visiting a new country, traveling safely is really a matter of common sense because you will not be aware of local traditions or problems that are faced by travelers.

If you ever get that distinct feeling that something is wrong, which often happens on vacation, that is your instinct giving you a warning that you should take notice of. If you are heading out on the town to discover new bars or taking photos at the local fish market, do you really need to carry your passport, traveler’s checks, extra cash, credit cards and plane tickets? Expensive and necessary items like identification tickets for example should be left at the hotel in their safe or the room safe if you have one; it is much easier to recover your vacation if you only lose a few important belongings instead of all of them. If you place your cash, traveler’s checks and credit cards in various locations about your person, then there is less likelihood of pickpockets stealing all your financial assets and leaving you with nothing.

Unfortunately, the convenience of having two credit cards on the same account in your own country can be a problem in a foreign land so another travel safely tip is to use two completely separate accounts; this provides a back-up should one be lost or stolen. Some of the easiest possessions to steal are bags and cameras owing to the way people carry them without even recognizing that they are an easy target for thieves; ensure the straps are over the head and across the chest if you want to hold on to them.

Some of the easiest crimes involve snatch thieves that may actually work in teams; they locate unsuspecting victims who have a bag on their shoulder for instance that can be easily grabbed by a passing cycle or scooter. We have all read about the different scams that people have fallen for and the truth is people continue to fall for them because the scammers are professionals and they’re good at it.

Complacency is a dangerous trait and we have all been guilty of it when we are on vacation, remember this is what they do every day to make money and feed their families. Carrying a small backpack can be a good idea as it can be secured with a small padlock which although will not deter the determined thief, will certainly slow down and prevent the majority from trying their luck.

What to Look for in a Toronto Hotel

Travel can be exciting and interesting, but it’s the little things that matter – like where you’re going to sleep for the night, where to eat and how to get to where you’re going. These are all concerns that travelers tend to have and choosing the right hotel is a huge factor in how much you’ll enjoy your trip to Toronto. Hotels can literally make or break your trip, whether you’re in town for business or pleasure.

Toronto hotels are many and the price ranges vary drastically, depending on what level of luxury you want. While price is not the only thing to consider when choosing a hotel, it is certainly a factor for most people. Here are some other things to think about when searching for a place to lay your head.

Location

You’ll want your hotel to be conveniently located, if possible. This makes it easier to get around. If you’re attending a conference, for example, getting a room within the same hotel is best, but anything nearby will be good, as well. Some places further off the beaten path may charge less, but remember that you’ll need to factor in transit times, car rental or taxi costs.

Service

There really is nothing worse than bad service at a hotel. When you need an extra blanket or more fresh towels, it’s important that these be provided. A good hotel will offer quality service, no matter what price range they’re in. Also take into consideration any extra features you’ll need, like room service or internet access in your room.

Size

How big are the rooms? You’ll find that some Toronto hotels are barely habitable because of the size. Unless you are really on a tight budget, there’s no need to cram into a matchbox sized room. Adjoining rooms are also a good idea if you have children, but want to keep two separate rooms.

Cost

This is part of price, but you need to look at the cost per person. Some hotels allow you to have just one or two people per bed, while others are fine if you want to cram a few more in. This all works out to a cost per person.

Upgrades

Using membership cards, either from a hotel chain or American Express can sometimes get you a nice upgrade, so check for hotels that let you do this. It will really make a difference in your trip.

Features

Are there special features you would like to have included? These might include a pool, spa, or just a nice place to sit outside and read. Different hotels have different levels of features, some might be very basic, while others will include everything from a spa to waterslides for the kids.

Choosing a hotel is a very personal choice. Your own preferences and budget will determine what sort of Toronto hotel you’ll want. If you are traveling alone, you might not need as many amenities, but with your family, you could opt for something a bit more entertaining than a plain hotel.

Toronto hotels have options for everyone. Keep in mind that hotels near major attractions will tend to be higher priced than those away from the action, but don’t forget to factor in the per person cost and transportation, as well. It might be worth getting a room nearer certain attractions if you can save on the rental car cost. With a little research, you’ll be ready to start making reservations and booking your trip.
