South Pacific Dive Sites

by Matthew James

One of the best places in the world to scuba dive is in the South Pacific. Some of the best tropical islands in the world are here and off these islands you will find a rich diversity of reef systems. From cheap Thailand to expensive French Polynesia, in the south pacific a diver could see all the major types of fish and coral systems in a vast array of color and diversity.

Diving in the south pacific is also a good way to learn about the area. The reef systems here are very well preserved and by coming here you can learn about how they work and they dangers they face elsewhere in the world. Diving in the south pacific is more than just fun- it’s also educational. In many parts of the world, reef systems are dying but here they are still vibrant.

There are many great facilities on Fiji for diving. You can use these boats to explore all the beautiful scuba diving points in this area. You also have the option of contacting the scuba diving instructors in case you need a bit of expertise on your trip. Fiji is especially wonderful for fish enthusiasts as there are over 1200 species of fish besides dolphins and whales. The sea temperature out here is pretty warm. You should ideally go for a dive out here in the early morning before the wind picks up.

A good off the beaten path islands is the island of Samoa. Samoa scuba diving holidays are very limited and dive sites and professional scuba diving operators are rather limited when compared to other islands in the region. There are some very good reefs for scuba diving but these sites are limited to the south coast. The main attractions here are pinnacles and marine life such as dolphins and turtles. You won’t find amazing diving here but if you want to avoid the crowds, this is a great place to do it!

You can also try Tahiti, but remember its again quite expensive when you compare it to the other options available in the South Pacific. It has a fine display of sharks and rays and a fine collection of colorful reef fish too. Head off to Bora Bora and Moorea if you want to scuba dive. Tahiti is a must for coral reef lovers. The visibility out here is very good and the sea temperature too is ideal for scuba divers. Tonga is another good option for scuba diving. You will be able to spot whales around this area.

There are many great dive spots all over the world. Yet for its size and complexity, the region of the South Pacific must always be the top area to go diving. Here you will find a wide variety of fish, coral, and sea life that just can’t be found anywhere else. It’s size also ensures that you won’t have to dive with lots of people and you can have wide areas to just yourself.

Now is the Best Time to Travel

March 14th, 2009 No comments

Everyone want to travel but most people don’t do it. There are many reasons for this. Fear keeps most people from traveling. When I first traveled in 2006, people always wanted to do what I was doing. For some people it is easy to just jump ship and go travel. Some have it in them all along and just need a gentle push. For me, all it took was a trip to Thailand and jealousy before I quit my job and telling my friends I was leaving to travel. For others it is a lot harder to leave. They are more tied to their job, more afraid, more uncertain. They may want to go but, instead the nudge I needed, they need a full on shove to get them to travel.

If you are looking for reasons, here are many good reasons to go around the world:

The economy is bad. With the world economy in a tailspin, there is a lot of economic uncertainty in the world. Will you be fired or are you going to stay? What about your investments? Stop worrying. Avoid it all. Go travel. If you quit your job, sell your stuff and travel, you won’t have to worry how the economy does. Let others worry and go have fun. Come back to the workforce when things get better.

You make a lot of friends. Even if you travel alone, you will never be alone. There are millions of people traveling the world everyday and you will bump into quiet a few of them. Traveling will allow you to make friends from around the world. Something you can’t do by sitting at home.

It’s better than working. Nobody likes to work- that is why we call it work and not fun. Sitting behind a desk under fluorescent lights all day takes the fun out of life. Nobody wants to spend their existence doing that. Take a break from that and go out and recharge your batteries.

Its not as expensive as you think. People think that traveling is expensive but its not at all. You can travel quite cheaply by using low cost airlines, staying in guesthouses, or with locals who offer you their home, and by taking local transportation.

You learn about other cultures. The world is a big place and globalization has made it much more complex and interconnected. You’ll never begin to understand all the other players in the world or why people do what they do by sitting at home. Traveling will teach you about other cultures and people and make them more than just a face on the news.

Because, like Yoda said, do or do not. Why spend your life thinking about what might be when you can just do it. Its not that hard to travel you just have to have the will to do it. Don’t live life with regrets- get up and get going. NO ONE ever regrets a trip like this. NO ONE.

Traveling is a life changing experience. There’s no reason not to go. As you can see, there are plenty of reasons why you should go. All you have to do is get up and go. There’s no secret. Just move. You live once.

The Best Resorts in Remote Places

March 13th, 2009 No comments

With the increased availability to travel to Europe and South America, vacations and travel to these regions of the globe is not as exotic as it once was. Super highways and commuter flights throughout the United States and North America have eased travel and made vacationing in these areas seem dull as well. To visit a locale that is still considered exotic and adventurous, one might try the continent of Asia.

Asia offers a new world of travel and adventure. The myriad of cultures throughout the continent allow travelers the ability to return to the region on multiple vacations without seeing the same thing over and over again. The countries of Asia provide access to some of the world’s largest cities, tallest mountains, and a wide variety of traditions, people and religions.

Some travelers may be out for the lights and business of the city. Hong Kong, China; Bangkok, Thailand; and Tokyo, Japan all offer the familiar look of a large city, but in a completely different manner. Exotic foods mixed with bright city lights will offer an urban adventure to travelers wanting to vacation with all the comforts of large hotels.

Travelers that want something more off the beaten path can find what they want in Asia as well. The Himalayan Mountains of Nepal, India, and Tibet offer some of the most challenging rock climbing adventures known to man. Adventures from a couple of days to weeks can be arranged with personal guides to traverse the dangerous cliffs. Some adventure goers choose to brave the rivers of the region via kayaks. Lessons are even available to those who want to improve their skills.

One must be prepared for not only the difference in cultures, but also the difference in climates. Depending on which region the vacationer chooses, they should research the possible effects of increased humidity levels for destinations such as Thailand and Indonesia, or they need to prepare for the reduced oxygen levels available in the mountainous regions of the Himalayas.

Whether an Asian vacation takes one to the big city or the rural regions, safety and courtesy is always advised to be observed. Read guide books, take a class, or meet people from the region you are going to visit in order to gain better perspective. When you prepare for a vacation overseas, you should do so with care. Another way to prepare for a vacation overseas, is to find a few documentaries, foreign films, and other media that will give you a glimpse into the lives of those you will be visiting. Immersing yourself into the culture before taking a vacation is a way to maintain your excitement. As you learn more about the culture, you should take note of the differences and similarities of cultures so you will be able to get along with people you meet along the way.
