Orlando is one of the world’s top tourist destinations, but is much more that a city tailored for theme park devotees. Orlando also has markets, shows, art galleries, exhibitions, beautiful lakes and parks, all easily available for the visitor who wants something a little different. Everything a visitor could possibly want is in Orlando and that is why people return year after year.

It is a warm and welcoming place that enjoys looking after people with its many shopping malls, restaurants, clubs and bars. Of course this article can only brush the surface of what you can see and do on an Orlando vacation but there is so much more than just theme parks that it would be a shame not to mention them.

The Central Florida Zoo for instance only opened back in 1975 and was owned by the Sanford Fire Department prior to that but is the home to over four hundred animals and is well worth a visit. Even though it is privately owned, it is run by a charitable group with the intention of providing classes for children and protecting species that are only found in Florida and other world wide exotic animals.

You may have heard of the name Tiffany’s but did you know that it was way back in 1942 that the Morse Museum in Winter Park that started displaying the collections of Louis Tiffany. Tiffany glass, clayware and ornaments are all on display here including a specially designed chapel interior shown at the Columbian Exposition back in 1893.

If you are looking for a variety of night life then it is in abundance in Orlando with two popular places being Universal’s Citywalk and Disney’s Pleasure Island, both of which are open until very late and cater mainly for adults with a range of street entertainment, bars, restaurants and clubs. This is certainly a city for all age groups and not solely designed for the amusement of children as family and adult attractions are in equal numbers.

Another popular attraction for people on an Orlando vacation is the Orlando Science Center and is in fact one of the largest buildings of its type allowing the visitor access to ten huge exhibition halls which range from the Florida swamplands to the surface of Mars and much more. If locomotives are your preference then you need to go along to the International Trolley and Train Museum which has fourteen trains running simultaneously in mountains, wilderness, urban areas and includes three waterfalls that use 12,000 gallons of water per hour.

If you have seen the Titanic-ship of Dreams film then you will enjoy the exhibition along International Drive that tells the story using large sets and depictions from the ship as a background, to the often eerie tale. A quieter more relaxing time can be found within the grounds of Lake Eola Park where you can enjoy over forty three acres of wonderful parkland which includes a boating lake for the more energetic among you.

Not all theme parks on Orlando are based purely on rides as the fantastic Seaworld will attest but if you want rides then you have the Disney resort theme parks and Universal too. Whatever you want from a vacation, Orlando can supply and you don’t have to work hard at finding it either but next time your there, try some of the other attractions, you won’t be disappointed.

The best place to stay in Orlando, considering you are going for the large number of theme parks is on International Drive. This is the primary location for all of the major theme parks. The following are the hotels that I rate as the top five hotels in Orlando, Florida.

Number one: Fairfield Inn & Suites Orlando International Drive. This hotel is located near all the theme parks. Everything I have heard relates to how friendly the staff is and how clean the hotel is. The hotel has a wonderful breakfast. It also has a shuttle that takes you to Universal and Islands of Adventure. This Orlando Hotel is the number one of the Orlando Hotels.

Number two: Hampton Inn Orlando – Convention Center. The beds are excellent and the staff is top notch. There is a breakfast in the morning that is excellent. The rooms are very nice. They are well kept up and most of all very clean. The hotel is about 2 minutes from International Drive. This is my number two pick of Orlando Hotels.

Number three: Horizons by Marriott Vacation Club at Orlando. I think this is the best hotel to go to with family. They have an excellent staff that helps entertain the kids. They also have miniature golf, a few pools and hot tubs, also table games like pool and tennis. They also offer a bar by the pool. This hotel is number three in my ranking of Orlando Hotels.

Number four: Hilton Grand Vacations Club on International Drive. What a place for your whole family to enjoy. This hotel puts together entertainment for the kids. There is a bunch a family atmosphere as soon as you walk in, plus the property itself is beautiful. The hotel is located right by Sea World and close to Walt Disney World. There is a shuttle and trolley that will pick you up at the front gate and takes you where you want to go. I have also learned that they have excellent homemade ice cream in their recreation room. This is the number four rank out of all the Orlando Hotels.

Number five: Crowne Plaza Orlando Universal. This is another hotel with very comfortable beds. The staff is extremely friendly, and the rooms are clean with nice furniture. This property also has LCD televisions. The downside is the hotel is not within walking distance of much, and is not as kid friendly as the others. This is our number five rank of the Orlando Hotels.
