Nairobi, The Most Exciting City in Africa

Nairobi is the most exciting town in Africa – hands down. This fact is little known, so this article gives you an insiders look of the food scene, hotels, lounges, bars and the trendy cosmopolitan inhabitants of the Capital of Kenya – Nairobi. Nairobi is thrilling, fun and a never sleeping city – the hub of Africa.

Swanky residents enjoy sumptuous cuisine in Kenya’s restaurants, lounges and bars. Afro-fusion cuisine create a whole new adventure for foodies. Maize cobs roasting by the roadside provide an amazing snack to the high paced tempo in the city.

The five star living is juxtaposed by informal dwellings. Less to do with the lack of ambition of the Kenyan people but more to do with the lack of provision of affordable decent housing. This is a world renowed market selling beautifully crafted tableware, accessories, fashion, interior design, and traditional ornaments. Village market is also home to Tribe displaying afro-chic interior design at its best – this five star hotel is truly unique.

The art and theater scene is alive and well. From Gallery Watatu where you can enjoy exceptional paintings to Phoenix players that stage some of the most refine artistry in town. In 2009, Kenya played host to the Haymarket festival. Nobel Laureates Wangari Mathai and Wole Soyinka joined renowned local and international narrators and poets hosted by StoryMoja. Incidentally, the StoryMoja crew staged their play ‘ Cut off my tounge’ in London. Who said Kenya’s do not engage in the literary arts?

MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) are to be applauded for recognising the emergence of Kenyan music onto the world stage and is hosting the awards in Nairobi. This celebrates the Kenyan renaissance that is train, in music, design, fashion, art, cuisine – you name it. Nameless, STL, Amani and Wahu ( who won best female artist last year) are all amongst Kenya’s musicians who have received nominations for this year. So get your party shoes on and get ready to party to Kenyan music as well as celebrate music and artists from across Africa.

A true sign that Kenyan fashion has matured is the Kiko Romeo store at the trendy Yaya Center mall. The Festival for African Fashion and Arts (FAFA) awards hosted annually in Nairobi highlight that African fashion is envouge and the designers are at the top of their game. We salute the fabulous trend – celebrating Kenyan culture, creativity, enterprise and talent. Kenyan’s both young and old are showing that wearing our own unique get up is what being hip is about.

Kenya Camps -The Amazing Mara Timbo

The camp is german run, located belowe the oloololo escarpment bordering the Mara River and sitting on the edge of the Masai Mara Game reserve. The region between the Mara River and the Esoit Oloolo form expansive rolling plains and provide a great sight to view animals in their natural habitat.

The Mara Timbo camp consists of seven luxuriously made tents which are en-suite with bathrooms. Lavish yet simple African dcor is the hallmark of each tent interior. It is thatched with grass to ensure that even in hot weather the interior will remain cool. Each tent is equipped with a private veranda, an outdoor bathtub and a sitting area. This is a 5 star establishment.

Each individual tent is a work of art which houses a king size bed, a safe deposit, a bathroom, double sinks, hot and cold shower, flush toilet, 220/240 volt power supply plus host of other amenities used by visitors. The tents are lauded for their privacy and space that gives ine room to move around easily. At the beck and call of each tent is a well trained, professional female butler who provides room service, and gives informative titbits about the camp, Masai Mara and nature.

The camp has a restaurant that provides sumptuous meals. Visitors have a choice of three menus that have three course meals to choose from with one of them being vegetarian. Candle lit dinner is organized under the open skies next to a roaring campfire. The restaurant has a bar and lounge which are artfully decorated with cosy chairs that make you want to laze away the evening. There is a well stocked reference library for the avid readers.

The Mara Timbo camp has a Message Tree- house that ensures visitors are provided with refreshing and professional body message with aromatherapy based oils. The message tree house has a stunning view of the Mara River where one can see the hippos milling around.

Sightings are guaranteed being at the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Your stay at the camp you will see plenty of animals; two big Hippo families inhabit the Mara River directly in front of the camps lounge. Taking a nature walk around the camp you will see large resident populations of herbivores including giraffes, elephants, buffalos, monkeys, Rhinos and zebras. Predators most notably lions and hyenas can be spotted. The leopard being elusive is rarer but can also be sighted in this area. Night game drives, bird watching and Cultural visits can also be organized.

The camp has within its vicinity a curio shop. This shop is well stocked with t-shirts, souvenirs, beadwork done by Masai, and hats plus a host of other items which form ideal gift items for loved ones back at home. Suppliers to the curio shop include Kenya kanga, Marula studios, and Kenya beads.

The Masai Mara isa 40 minute flight away from Nairobi Wilson airport. The Mara Timbo is located near the Oloololo gate of Masai National Reserve and the kichwa Tembo Tembi airstrip. Guests have the option of being picked up at the Kichwa Tembo airstrip and transferred to the camp. The drive to the camp is a first hand experience of the Mara, you get not only to ogle at the scenery but the animals also.

African Safari Thrills and Beach Vacation Relaxation In Kenya

Going on an African Safari brings up images of wild animals in their natural habitat, exotic African scenery, a hint of danger and adventure and wonderful opportunities for photographers. Traveling to Africa on safari is still an unusual choice but one many people would like to enjoy and want to talk about with those who have been, sharing in their memories.

In East Africa, Kenya is a great choice as a safari vacation destination because of the opportunity to combine an exciting African wildlife safari expedition with a relaxing beach vacation. One day you can be swimming in the warm Indian Ocean on a sandy tropical beach, and the next day you can be watching lions and elephants in the wild.

A combined safari and beach vacation to Kenya is the perfect exotic break away from your daily city routines. It also makes for an idyllic honeymoon trip if you have wedding plans in mind.
