Businesses Flying High To Success With Flexible, Affordable Air Travel

Article by RealWire

UK Businesses are flying high to greater productivity and profitability thanks to flexible and affordable air travel from aircraft lease and travel company MPS Aviation.

By getting much closer to customer’s desired departure and destination points, MPS saves valuable time otherwise wasted on needless road travel. That translates directly into more time on the job, squeezing maximum value from costly staff time.

Making all this possible is MPS’ seven-seater King Air aircraft, a 250 mile-an-hour turboprop with a notable and rare ability – it can use over 40% more airfields in the UK than the best performing business jets, putting many more towns and cities within easy reach.

Big name retail chains are already signed up for the service and finding they can get a lot more work done in a day, often visiting three or four locations instead of just one by car. “One household name group was able to visit several potential new store locations hundreds of miles apart and do it comfortably within a normal working day,” says MPS chief pilot Christine Newall. “There’s no way you could achieve that kind of productivity by any other means.”

Yet while the King Air delivers jet-like comfort and convenience, it is significantly less expensive to lease than either business jets or helicopters. Indeed, so cost-effective is it proving that one company is now using it to move other key staff, including sales trainers, around the UK, disproving the myth that such aircraft are only justifiable for executives.

Says Newall: “This version of the King Air has all the comfort of an executive jet, but can access many more airfields at much lower cost. As companies look to boost productivity, it’s not surprising that we’re seeing renewed interest in personalised travel, particularly when the aircraft can meet people at a local airfield of their choice, take them to pretty much anywhere in the UK where they can do a full day’s work, and then take them home again in time to put the children to bed.”

It’s case proven for multi-award-winning Derby law firm Flint Bishop where corporate specialist and partner Ran Oren said the MPS service offered more than just time and productivity benefits. “It’s possible we may be called at short notice to crucial business negotiations at the other end of the country. This service is quicker and often more cost effective to my clients than traditional means of transport.”

Conveniently based in central England, MPS routinely collects customers from airfields around the country for onward travel to destinations in the UK and Europe. It can then return them to their original point of departure or other chosen location. The company also operates a four-seater Cessna aircraft for smaller parties travelling to UK and near European destinations.

Air Travel – Essential Tips For Flying With Ease

Air Travel – Essential Tips For Flying With Ease

Whether you are flying somewhere with your family for a much-needed vacation or solo for a routine business trip, air travel comes with its own challenges. It is very common for people to get bored, restless or uncomfortable during flights, and these problems are easily eliminated with a little planning.

The best thing you can do to improve your in-flight experience is to bring the comforts of home with you. You are always allowed at least one carry-on bag, so make it count. Here are some tips:

·         Sanitation: Although it’s not a pleasant thought, it pays to consider cleanliness and plan ahead by bringing sanitary wipes and hand gel. The surfaces on airplanes get touched by many different people every day, and that includes the bathroom fixtures as well as your seat handles, pull-down trays and anything else you touch. Whip out your wipes as soon as you sit down and go over the main surfaces you will touch in-flight, and do the same when you go into the washroom (never enter airplane washrooms with stocking feet!). Use non-wash hand gel before eating and then again after exiting the aircraft. Take these quick precautions and you’ll save yourself from potentially getting sick on your vacation or trip. Just remember to keep any little bottles under 100Ml or they will be confiscated at the gate.

·         Healthy Snacks: While you may get food on the plane, ensure you won’t be hungry and that you’ll eat what you want by bringing along healthy snacks. Check with your airline or customs as to whether you can bring food through the gate, or buy some small items you like inside the gate, before boarding. This is especially helpful when the in-flight crew cannot get to you in a timely manner due to turbulence or other concerns, and you feel famished. Try to keep your snacks on the healthy side, as mentioned – salty snacks will only make you feel thirsty and dehydrated.

·         Reading material: A book or magazine will go a long way toward keeping you busy during your flight. If you forget, you can usually grab some reading material at the airport.

·         Audio: To drown out noisy kids or just to relax, in flight audio works like a charm. Many airlines offer movies or other entertainment, but not all offer free headsets these days. Bring along a headset of your own – iPod headsets fit into most airline audio sockets. You can also, of course, load your iPod or other listening device with music or stories to keep you entertained on your flight.

·         Reflection: You may want to bring a notebook or journal in which to record your thoughts. Away from the norms of your everyday life, you can make use of the chance to reflect by writing out goals, plans or other personal thoughts.  WORK TIP: Even if you are heading somewhere to get away from all your work-related concerns, flying time offers a unique opportunity for you to get some clarity. Consider using this time to ponder your current work set-up, how it can be improved and what your professional goals may be for the next few months and years. No matter what you do for a living, there is always room for improvement – in both your performance and effectiveness and well as your sense of satisfaction – and entrepreneurs, especially, often forget to step back and work ‘on’ their business rather than ‘in’ it all the time. Use this time to get a little perspective and you may find some new, exciting plans come to mind.

·         Comfort: Airplanes are very dry, so bring small items such as lip balm, saline eye drops and nose spray. Drink lots of water while on board, and keep your skin moisturized. You may also want to bring a small blanket or scarf and maybe even a mini-pillow, as many airlines no longer offer these as complimentary items, and you find yourself sleepy or cold with no recourse but to be uncomfortable. Also consider a sleep mask and earplugs if you plan on resting.

·         Relaxation: Listen to relaxing music or meditations to pass the time, and to alleviate nervousness if you are prone to it. Load your iPod with soothing guided meditations or calming music. Some enterprising airlines even offer these as part of their in-flight entertainment system.

Air Travel – Flying with an Infant/Toddler

Air Travel – Flying with an Infant/Toddler

Air Travel with toddlers doesn’t have to be a stressful experience. Here are some exclusive tips that will help you make it through your flight.

Schedule your flights to coincide with nap/bedtimes.
Whenever possible, try to book direct flights during the time of day or night your child would normally be sleeping. In all likelihood, they will keep up the pattern and fall asleep despite being 25,000 feet in the air. Any sleep they get on the plane will serve to cut down the time they must be entertained while awake!

Car seat on the plane?
When our daughter was an infant we choose to save the money and only purchase seats for ourselves which meant she spent the duration of the flight(s) on our laps. More recently, we have taken to carrying-on the car seat which accomplishes two very important things: freeing up our laps, arms, and such, and keeping her in the seat. It also adds some familiarity to a new vehicle/mode of transportation – a little piece of home(life) in a new place. Yes, it is frustrating having to carry the seat around the airport, but the in-flight payoff is worth it.

Managing the Flight
An easy and effective way to manage your in-flight, family-with-toddler(s) experience is to break the trip down, mentally, into 20 minute segments (to borrow an airline term). So, if you have a 2 1/2 hour flight, you really have only 7 twenty minute segments to schedule and occupy your child’s (or children’s) time. When you think of your flight in this manner it becomes a relatively manageable event.

Here are some parent and flight tested tips on segment ideas that will occupy and entertain your kids, providing you with some down time to peruse the SkyMall catalog, and not have you lugging a suitcase full of toys around the terminal.

(remember: each idea has to occupy a mere 20 minutes, anything more than that is a bonus!):

A new toy or book (nothing fancy, just something brand new to him or her)

Crayola Color Wonder Markers (an inventive product that will only write on the special Crayola paper) – This is a favorite of ours. No messes at all and no toxic marker smell. The marker caps make for great, silly kid fingernail extensions. In fact, if your child is anything like ours, the caps alone could be their own segment.

Tape and/or Stickers – Plain old Scotch tape can be a load of fun for a little one. Roll it up inside itself to make a sticky circle and let them stick it to their nose, your nose, between their fingers…just good old fashioned fun with a 2 inch piece of tape.

Magna Doodle (Travel Edition) – A classic toy that our modern kids still enjoy. (Note: really young ones may get frustrated at their inability to, independently, erase their work as the tab to clear the screen can be rather difficult to slide)

A Discman/Portable CD player – If you do not have an old one collecting dust somewhere, they can be had relatively cheap in the iPod age. This is perfect if your child has a particular CD they are diggin’ at the moment (or if you have made a Mix CD of their favorite songs). If they have never used a portable cd player before, the novelty of this device combined with the music they already love should carry you for two segments. Be sure to keep the volume at a low level and use only the classic earphones with the large, round and padded ear pieces that sit on the outside of their ears. kid size earphones?

Their favorite book(s) – (often a bedtime book, which is essential if your flight will involve a nap or take place during bedtime).

For older toddlers/young kids: some brochures/city-location guide books. Allow and encourage your kids to plan a day trip, museum visit, etc. Give the reigns over to them for a period of time (whatever you are comfortable with/have the time for) providing they devise a plan using the material you bring on board. Not only will this occupy a good amount of time, but they will love the chance to be the boss and decision maker. By engaging them in the trip planning you will also increase the chances of them enjoying themselves and going along with something you want to do (reciprocating the favour). For the younger members of your family, use the brochures as a conversation piece to get them excited and interested in what they will be seeing during the vacation.

Snap-Crackle-Pop (Dealing with the altitude and popping ears)
Be sure to pack their favorite beverage and snack on board. Not only will the eating and drinking occupy a segment but it is also an method of reducing the impact of air pressure on their ears. By drinking or chewing they will hopefully not feel an uncomfortable amount of pressure while taking off and landing.
