How To Enjoy Your Holiday In Barbados

February 23rd, 2009 1 comment

Barbados is one of the Caribbean islands, and is extremely English in its mannerisms as a result of being a British colony previously.

Barbados has five separate parts, all of which house something to attract the tourists. The first, Bridgetown, is the capital city of the island. Central Barbados has a large limestone cave which is a huge sightseeing spot on the island, and in addition has wildlife reserves that can be gone to. This is also the place to take part in golf and polo.

Eastern Barbados faces the Atlantic and has some extremely packed beaches. This also has the greatest surfing spot on the island, The Soup Bowl. Western Barbados is quieter, and is where some great beaches are. To conclude, Southern Barbados is bursting with bars and restaurants, and is celebrated for its fish fry.

While in Barbados, be sure you visit the many beaches and soak in the sun. You should also go scuba diving or snorkeling to view the amazing marine life in the region. You can also surf here, and most beaches will provide you with the opportunity to rent all snorkeling, scuba diving, and surfing equipments.

The fare in Barbados is special. It is a blend of spices with unusual flavors, but you can also eat English food that is not as fiery. Expect to eat something very Bajan along with something very English.

Make sure you eat the Flying Fish which is an island icon. It is fried and dished up with a yellow sauce that has extremely hot peppers, so be cautious when trying it. Pepperpot is a local pork stew in a dark sauce. It’s fairly hot and absolutely not to be missed.

Also, make sure you try “cutters”, which is a local sandwich. These can include flying fish as well. Be warned that there are very few fast food chains on the island, and almost none that serve beef, as the local people do not eat a lot of beef. So, you can find KFC on the island, but not a Burger King.

On Friday nights, you can go to the town of Oistins where the “Fish Fry” offered is extremely delicious. You can also buy fresh fish from the market here. The place remains open till late with locals dancing till late night. This is one of the biggest attractions on the island.

The island has some of the most sparkling water, so you can drink it from the tap. Additionally, Rum is awfully famous and can be seen in every bar. The biggest brand is Mount Gay Rum. In addition, you can also go on a trip of the Banks brewery, and although the tour is not that wonderful, there is an unrestricted amount of beer offered before it starts.

If you are searching for some sun and sand, Barbados is the best spot for you. The island has much to show, so even if you get tired of the beaches, you can find amusement elsewhere.
