Decide on a Travel Destination and Sail Away

April 9th, 2009 1 comment

You’ve had vacations every year, but this is your first cruise. You’ve been waiting for months for the day to finally arrive and here it is! You’re probably nervous and afraid you won’t know what to do or you’ll feel lost. Relax, here are a few pointers of what you can expect.

The first thing you’ll find out is that the ship is like no other ship you have ever been on or even seen for that matter. From the moment you step aboard, you will be amazed at the different levels, the long corridors, walkways and the enormous size. All this and you haven’t even seen your cabin yet. Shortly after you get on the ship, you’ll soon forget that you are even on a ship and feel like you’re in a large city filled with activities. If it’s the holiday season, you’ll love the beauty of the decorations.

Take your time, relax and look around. A lot of the enjoyment is just exploring on your own. Many times, it’s easier to find your way around by checking things out yourself. You may also have been given a map of the ship, which will prove to be quite helpful in navigating around the ship. You’ll get to find out firsthand where the best restaurants are located, the swimming pools or movie theatre for the kids. Speaking of kids, they’ll want to check out the map for the best video arcade or other games.

If it’s been a long trip, you’ll probably just want to check out your cabin and perhaps rest awhile. I hope that you’ve kept some personal belongings in your purse or have a small duffel bag, as your luggage may not be delivered to your cabin for a few hours. After you’re fully rested, you’ll be dying to investigate the ship.

If you have any trouble navigating around the ship, there are plenty of new passengers just like yourself that are new and just as nervous as you are. Most cruise ships have a full staff that is very devoted to making you comfortable and being helpful as can be. Between their help and your map, you’ll soon feel right at home.

You may find that your cabin is smaller than it appeared in the pictures. Although they are small, they make amazing use of the space there is available. Of course, depending on your travel destination, you probably won’t be spending much time in your cabin-not with all the activities they have to offer.

You will be given a ship credit card for any purchases you make while aboard. The crew will help you with your dining and seating arrangement, however, you can easily be moved if you are not happy where they have you sitting. Their goal is always to keep their passengers happy.

Sight Seeing in Italy

February 23rd, 2009 No comments

Once in a while, every individual deserves a break from the intensive work load in the office. The ideal scenario for a break would be a nice long vacation in an attractive and culturally rich part of the world with one’s friends and family. There really is nothing like a good vacation to relax those over worked nerves and take a moment to enjoy and appreciate life, rather than just being a machine working 24/7 without any rest or relaxation.

When it comes to vacations, what better place to spend one’s vacations would be than some place historically rich in culture? Especially for those who are interested in history, historic events, and landmarks. Italy is one of the oldest and most culturally rich places of the world. The existence of civilization in various parts of Italy predates the Roman and Greek civilizations.

There are many historic places to visit in Italy, in fact it wouldn’t be wrong to say that to absorb the entire cultural heritage of Italy one would need more than a life time. Never the less, Italy is a great vacation spot and with all the historic buildings and landmarks, no one would ever say otherwise. Rome and Venice are home to many historic buildings. Furthermore, following are some of the must see historic buildings in Italy.

The first place to visit in Rome would be the Pantheon, as it is one of the most remarkable and historic buildings in Rome. It was built around 126 AD by the emperor, and was intended to be an open temple for people to worship the gods of their belief. Later around the 7th century, it was converted into a Christian church.

The colosseum is an additional wonder of history in Rome. It was built in the last quarter of the first century and was considered to be the largest amphitheatre in Rome. It was used to host wild and cruel games, and in the days of its fame almost 50,000 people would fill the colosseum to see these violent games. There is not enough left of the colosseum at present, but it still attracts a lot of tourists from around the world. In the early 18th century a further great structure was built in Rome i.e. the Spanish Steps. There are a total of 138 steps presently leading from Piazza di Spagna up to Church of Trinit dei Monti.

Venice, one more rich in culture city of Italy, is home to many historic buildings and landmarks. These constructions include the famous Fondaco dei Turchi, The Rialto Bridge, The House of Carlo Goldoni, Palazzo Ducale, and Ca’ d’Oro and Ca’ Rezzonico. These landmarks should not be missed by anyone who visits Italy as they hold an immense amount of culture and history in them.

Fondaco dei Turchi meaning the Turks warehouse is one of the oldest constructions of Italy. It was built by Gaicamo Palmieri, the initiator of one of the respectable families in Italy, and was later on rented to the Turks of the Ottoman Empire in the 17th century for trading purposes, hence getting the name of Fondaco dei Turchi.

The Rialto Bride is an additional historic building of Venice. It was originally constructed around the 4th quarter of the 12th century, but was ruined several times until its final version was built with stone which has survived the test of time. This last version was built around the 16th century, and is around 8 meter high.

Renting apartments for your visit to Rome is an excellent alternative to hotel stays. You might find choosing one of these great units a little difficult, however.

If you’re not certain what apartment you want or what area you’re most interested in staying near, here’s some information to help you choose. It can be a real help to learn about all your options and the areas you can pick from.

Spanish Steps This area is filled with elegance, and is host to many high end restaurants, designer stores, and well known bars and clubs. That doesn’t mean it’s a tourist trap, though – there are plenty of upscale Roman households in this neighborhood.

Piazza Navona While this area can be very touristy by day, it quiets down a little at night. There are still some great restaurants and bars available, and the streets in this neighborhood offer a number of unique boutiques.

Campo de Fiori Known for its fantastic outdoor market, this area is a wonderful people-watching spot. In the summer, you’ll find the piazza has a party-like atmosphere, and is filled to the brim with people enjoying the great weather.

Trastavere Known for its excellent restaurants and bars, this is a peaceful area in morning, and livelier after nightfall. Great for strolls in the daytime, Trastavere offers old fashioned cobbled streets and beautiful scenery.

Colosseum The Monti neighborhood near the Colosseum is one of the oldest in Rome, and offers apartments in a homelike setting. Enjoy a trip to the forum or the old trattorias, or take a walk down the old fashioned cobblestone streets.

Vatican This is a middle class area near the Vatican itself, and while it’s busy during the day, it’s quite peaceful at night. Inexpensive and pleasant, this area is a great choice for apartment rental if you’re in Rome primarily to see the Vatican.

Via Veneto Opened in the late nineteenth century, this road was intended to offer high class accommodations, trendy cafes and elegant shopping. It’s one of the most attractive areas in Rome, is close to all the biggest attractions, and is a great place for luxury apartment rental.

Aventino A peaceful suburb lined with trees, Aventino offers many older buildings and beautiful villas. It’s inexpensive, near Trastavere and Testaccio, and makes a great spot if you want a peaceful stay.

Borghese Gardens Offering inexpensive rentals for vacation apartments, this area has attractive scenery and good connections to the public transportation system.

Termini An exciting area that offers many newly renovated structures (including elevators, which are rare in Rome), Termini gives you plenty to see and do. It’s also close to public transport.

While these aren’t all the places for a great apartment rental in Rome, they’re some of your best options. Whether you’re looking for a bustling area that has plenty of attractions or a quieter neighborhood for a peaceful vacation, you’ll have no trouble finding what you’re after.
