Now is the Best Time to Travel

March 14th, 2009 No comments

Everyone want to travel but most people don’t do it. There are many reasons for this. Fear keeps most people from traveling. When I first traveled in 2006, people always wanted to do what I was doing. For some people it is easy to just jump ship and go travel. Some have it in them all along and just need a gentle push. For me, all it took was a trip to Thailand and jealousy before I quit my job and telling my friends I was leaving to travel. For others it is a lot harder to leave. They are more tied to their job, more afraid, more uncertain. They may want to go but, instead the nudge I needed, they need a full on shove to get them to travel.

If you are looking for reasons, here are many good reasons to go around the world:

The economy is bad. With the world economy in a tailspin, there is a lot of economic uncertainty in the world. Will you be fired or are you going to stay? What about your investments? Stop worrying. Avoid it all. Go travel. If you quit your job, sell your stuff and travel, you won’t have to worry how the economy does. Let others worry and go have fun. Come back to the workforce when things get better.

You make a lot of friends. Even if you travel alone, you will never be alone. There are millions of people traveling the world everyday and you will bump into quiet a few of them. Traveling will allow you to make friends from around the world. Something you can’t do by sitting at home.

It’s better than working. Nobody likes to work- that is why we call it work and not fun. Sitting behind a desk under fluorescent lights all day takes the fun out of life. Nobody wants to spend their existence doing that. Take a break from that and go out and recharge your batteries.

Its not as expensive as you think. People think that traveling is expensive but its not at all. You can travel quite cheaply by using low cost airlines, staying in guesthouses, or with locals who offer you their home, and by taking local transportation.

You learn about other cultures. The world is a big place and globalization has made it much more complex and interconnected. You’ll never begin to understand all the other players in the world or why people do what they do by sitting at home. Traveling will teach you about other cultures and people and make them more than just a face on the news.

Because, like Yoda said, do or do not. Why spend your life thinking about what might be when you can just do it. Its not that hard to travel you just have to have the will to do it. Don’t live life with regrets- get up and get going. NO ONE ever regrets a trip like this. NO ONE.

Traveling is a life changing experience. There’s no reason not to go. As you can see, there are plenty of reasons why you should go. All you have to do is get up and go. There’s no secret. Just move. You live once.

Things To Do While You Spend Your Vacation In Amsterdam

February 2nd, 2009 No comments

Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, has stunning architecture and canal that go all the way through the city, giving it beautiful scenery. The people here converse in English as well, so with the communication difficulty being resolved it is a great city for visitors.

Amsterdam is full with countless options of enjoyment, whether you like shopping, music, art, food, or history. You can visit this place any time, but it does get really cold in the winter. Spring is full of tulips, and is thus a best time of year to visit if you have been preparing to have a vacation here.

The city has almost 7000 registered historic buildings, so walking through the city is a very pleasant experience. During World War II, no buildings were damaged as there were no main bombings here, so the old city has survived in its original shape and you can see great architecture all over the place.

It is well worth it to buy the Museumkaart (museum card), which costs, almost 40 Euros. This offers you free entrance to over 400 museums in the country, and can be purchased without difficulty from the main museums. You can use this for one complete year, and it quickly pays for itself if you scheduling to go to a small number of museums. The most renowned museums that you must not miss are the Allard Peirson Museum, which is an archaeological museum, and the Diamond Museum.

You should also visit Anne Frank’s House, which is where Anne Frank hid from the Nazi’s and wrote her famous book. The museum card is however not valid here, so be prepared to pay around nine Euros for entry. You should also visit the Museum Amstelkring, which is a Catholic church converted into a museum. NEMO, a science centre, is an educational attraction that is very pleasurable to visit.

The Rembrandt House, where the artist Rembrandt lived with his wife, is also another place on the list of must-see places. The Rijksmuseum is another place to see, where works by the Dutch masters are housed. The Van Gogh Museum is dedicated to the Dutch painter, and has a large collection of his paintings, as well as Monet’s.

You can also take an organised city tour, with a tour operator that has guided tours into most tourist spots. This will cost more than going everywhere yourself, but if you are not interested in looking through a guide book this will be a good alternative.

The Red Light District, which in reality is numerous canals and side streets, is a part where prostitution is legalised. It is also a place which is full of numerous historic buildings as this is the oldest part of the city. The oldest church in Amsterdam, Oude Kerk, is also situated here.

Amsterdam has so a lot of attractions for its tourists and it is impractical to cover everything in just one small visit. So, it is well worth the time and money to do research online before visiting the city, and use the above mentioned sites as an instruction to start off your tour.
