Learn About Tourism Before You Reach Your Destination

December 31st, 2008 No comments

Vacations mean many different things to people. To some people, a vacation is just some time away from work and home with nothing to do but relax. They really don’t care where they go. They may go camping of may just visit relatives in another city. Other people may want to travel half way around the world to see some place they’ve never seen before but always dreamed about seeing. The one thing all these vacations is that each person hopes it will be a memorable vacation with lots of fun.

Whether you are traveling to the next town or are planning on going somewhere out of the country, it’s important to take certain precautionary safety measures. Accidents or mishaps in a foreign country can be twice as catastrophic when you are unfamiliar with the area, local authorities or medical facilities.

Always know exactly where you are going and what it is going to be like while you are there. If you have never traveled to this particular location, talk to people who have or do your own research. Learn about any certain laws they may have regarding tourists. Often law enforcement is much stricter with tourists.

Always bring enough money to last you the entire vacation. Nothing can ruin a great vacation quicker than running out of money before your vacation is over. Find out if their currency rate is different from your own (foreign country etc.).

Learn everything you can learn about where you are going and what the customs are. Research what kind of activities you can expect to do when you get there. Learn as much as you can about the type of tourism that takes place there. As exciting as it may sound to go someplace strange and adventuresome where no one else has gone, this can be risky, especially if you have no idea what to expect. Unless you are a very experienced and learned traveler, try to stay with customary vacations like to Barcelona, Spain.

If you are planning a safari or other outdoor adventure, be prepared for all types of weather as well as insects and possible bites and preventative measures.

Last, but not least, always make a budget for your vacation. Find out how much everything cost where you are going and be generous. Better to come home with money then run short. When you get to your total of how much you need to have a great time, add a few hundred more and have fun!

Amtrak discount tickets can make for a fantastic holiday. Not only do they provide a comparable vacation to any overseas location, there are considerable savings to be had. The rail company also tops it off with top class and efficient service that is always required for the best travel transportation.

The discounts from Amtrak result in extremely competitive prices even when relatively compared to other forms of transport like air travel. They add to the value one looks out for in any holiday or tour package. There is also their Guest Rewards program that rewards loyal users of their train network with future savings and gifts.

There are various discount programs on Amtrak train tickets. One of their most popular is the weekly promotions on various train routes. If you plan to go on a vacation within the United States, check what Amtrak has to offer first for their weekly discounts to take advantage at the right times.

Many Amtrak discounts for their tickets can go as high as 15%, depending on the destinations, routes and packages. These are just the standard offers, with special promotions regularly created. Frequent Amtrak users will have to consider their rail passes, which provide substantial savings compared to getting single trip tickets.

With the discounts, high comfort levels and extensive coverage within the country, holidays with Amtrak might appear to be real bargains. It could become more popular in the coming months ahead, as the country and her people struggle to cope with the worsening economic climate that is restricting higher levels of spending.

The options for cheaper tickets are extended to online options. Some discounts are only available online, either directly from Amtrak, or through various travel agents.

The whole experience is heightened by the journey itself. Travel by rail can be exhilarating if the routes cut across beautiful sights within the country. Amtrak networks have fortunately been planned to pass by some of the best scenery in North America. All this without the need to spend on expensive tickets normally associated with air travel.

There are also peripheral benefits with travel packages using Amtrak. While a plane ride has its own unique features, the journey itself on a train can be an eye opener. Amtrak routes are also usually through vast countryside landscapes, and the scenic views can leave one in awe. Everything comes together for a beautiful and complete travel experience.

Malaga City, now Iberian Peninsula’s center of trade was a Moorish populated area before. Evidences of such occupation were the famous fortresses, symbols of the triumphs of conquering the Moors by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. It was built in 1497 and still stands as strongly as it was before. Arabesque and Christian Gothic architecture not only reigns dominant in the city’s over-all structure but also are Roman, Greek and Phoenician art as well. This likely mixture of styles added greatly to the charm this place already has.

It is Costa del Sol’s Travel center, explaining the airport’s rather busy look. Bus and cars are welcome rides to enter the city as they are not hard to find. The 15th century built Cathedral, was erected on what was a mosque before. Original layout plans tell us that it was planned to have two towers but went down to one because of insufficient funds. Castles such as the Castillo de Gibralfaro, home of the famous three-month siege lead by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, attract lots of historical and visual treat seeking people. It also served as a lighthouse in the 1300′s hence the name.

Another landmark, the Alcazaba, is the site of the city’s very first Catholic mass held after the Christian siege. Now, it serves as the host to a museum and a number of surrounding gardens.

Don’t forget Malaga’s famous export, Pablo Picasso. The city put up a museum where his life as an artist is seen through his voluminous collection of artworks.

Shopping and Nightlife

What’s traveling without a little shopping? Be sure to bring enough cash for a little worthwhile spending in Calle Marques de Larios. This street houses the most exclusives boutiques around that you’ll ever see. On the contrary, Plaza de Constitucion is its counterpart. You’ll find the far lesser priced goods and better Bargained souvenirs in its small alleys.

Other spots like O’Neill’s Irish Pub along Calle Luis del Velasquez shows the cultural diversity aspect of the city. Holiday Flying Tips

December 29th, 2008 No comments
by Lynda Baskin

With the crowds, the delays, the security, and the increased prices, not many people enjoy flying.

And, the only thing worse than flying under normal conditions is flying during holidays, when crowds are bigger, delays are longer, and prices are higher. But, if you live more than a few hours from the rest of your family, or if you have business in distant cities, you pretty much have to fly, like it or not.

Flying may never be fun, but the tips below can make it more pleasant. Give them a try.

1. Use travel sites (Priceline, Kayak, etc.) to book flights, hotels, and ground transportation. You’ll save time and find both more options and better prices. But, remember to book early for travel during holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas or all bets are off.

2. Carry all trip information (hotel, flight, rental car, etc.) with you in a file folder or large envelope. Also, bring your GPS or internet directions for all driving destinations.

3. Check in for flights and make baggage payments and arrangements online if at all possible.

4. Get your boarding passes and check your bags at curbside. Nowhere else will a few dollars save you so much time and inconvenience.

5. Do you take daily medication? Are you bringing critical business documents on your trip? Do not put anything you absolutely must have with you in checked baggage; carry it with you. Delayed or lost baggage will always be inconvenient, but you can prevent it from putting you in an emergency situation.

If you fly more than a few times a year, you might want to investigate a few of the auto rental clubs, airline clubs, and hotel clubs. They can save you time, hassle, and money, and they frequently offer members low cost or free upgrades. You’ll enjoy your memberships all year long, but never more than during the holidays.
