While Orlando vacations have been popular for many years now, the number of reasons to visit continues to grow as the number of facilities and attractions increases. As an Orlando devotee, I can recommend all of the theme parks there but did you know that the area is brimming with other visitor attractions that can please and amuse without a roller coaster in sight. There is also International Drive which houses a huge number of attractions, shopping areas and water parks; all within a reasonable walking distance if you want a rest from driving.

Orlando really is one of the visitor friendly cities in the world and you can really enjoy yourself at Church Street Station, a multi-level shopping and amusement center, featuring a large quantity of specialty shops, eating places, clubs and bars. With so many places to visit and things to see, the information provided here cannot even brush the surface but will give an insight into some of the not so well publicized attractions.

To start, there is the Central Florida Zoo which draws huge crowds all year round and has over four hundred animals there and although it is hard to believe, this zoo was only granted this status in 1975; previously belonging to the Sanford Fire Department. Privately owned, this zoo is also a botanical garden run by a charitable group whose purpose is to protect native and endangered species around the world.

Then there are the works of Louis Tiffany whose famous collection is housed here in the Morse Museum of American Art. The famous chapel interior commissioned for the World’s Columbian Exhibition back in 1893 is also her along with many Tiffany jewelry, art and leaded glass, ornaments and clayware.

For tourists that like to burn the candle at both ends there is a range of nightly entertainment from the themed family evenings like Pirates Adventure or medieval Feasts to more adult based entertainment at Disney’s Pleasure Island or Universal’s Citywalk. Whilst it may seem that Orlando has been created for the entertainment of children that could not be further from the truth as there is plenty here for everyone.

If you are more technology and science minded then a trip to the Orlando Science Center will be a must as is a huge complex incorporating 10 halls with exhibitions ranging from the Florida Everglades to the plains of Mars. If your preference is in railways then the International Trolley and Train Museum on International drive will be a pleasant surprise with 14 trains running continuously and a mountain range with three waterfalls in a space of about 4,000 square feet.

If you have seen the Titanic-ship of Dreams film then you will enjoy the exhibition along International Drive that tells the story using large sets and depictions from the ship as a background, to the often eerie tale. Lake Eola Park on the other hand has a pleasant 43 acres to stroll around and relax or perhaps some boating on the lake.

Now you couldn’t possibly visit Orlando without a trip to the numerous theme parks including Disney World, Universal Studios and of course not to forget the fantastic Seaworld. Orlando has enough tourist attraction to last a year but the next time you visit, why not try one or two of the others less well known but just as impressive places.
